![]() ![]() Tune to direct standard chromatic pitch using the EQU setting and play along with the acoustic six string parts of the song. The preset on the Peterson website is called “STH”. Use the offset that I found, notated and shared for the six string acoustic guitar on “Stairway To Heaven” from Led Zeppelin’s untitled fourth album. As I have already proven many times over in this thread. Why does it work? Because Eddie used tuning offsets arrived at with his ear in conjunction with a Peterson strobe tuner deliberately. It will be obvious then, though it should be after even casual glancing at this thread, that it works. Then tune to the offset for that same particular track. Tune your guitar to exactly 1/2 step down first and play along with one of the songs from the first and second Van Halen albums. There is no excuse for dismissing all of the evidence that I have presented and not even trying it yourself. The only thing you need to try these is the $9.99 Peterson strobe tuner app…it is MUCH easier to use a Peterson Strobo HD series tuner that starts at $59.99, but it can be done on the Peterson iStroboSoft app for $9.99. I’ve presented all the irrefutable evidence, and it seems that no one has responded to that. I’ve asked someone else that question and it has gone unanswered. Have you simply tried the tuning offsets that I have posted here and played along with the recording that I’ve notated the offset from? And anyone that has used a strobe tuner would know that you can measure the pitches from the guitars on the records and notate them using a strobe tuner. Anyone that has done this would know that tuning offsets are being used. I suppose I took it for granted that most people that play guitar learned from classic rock records like I did and they learned how to tune to the guitars that are on the records so that they can learn and play along with them. So yes…I’ve thought about “how these guys were using them”. Unless you didn’t bother to click on the video and watch and listen at the specific 0:35 second timing that I mentioned.Īnd oh yes…this entire thread goes over exactly how Eddie and his technicians used his. Have you thought about that? You just heard Alan Rogan describe how he used it with Pete Townshend. ![]() We know these guys were using strobe tuners,īut do we know exactly how they were using them? The phrase Savant Syndrome would be more appropriate.ĭid Edward have it? We will never know, unless any of us were his psychiatrist. (With the iPod Touch, there is no built-in mic, so you'll definitely need the accessory mic.) ($9.99 download, adaptor cable $12.99, mic $11.99 phrase you've been using, _ savant, is actually considered offensive nowadays. ![]() iStroboSoft is so good, in fact, that it would be a good argument for buying an iPhone or iPod touch if you were thinking about that purchase. This makes every other tuner app I've seen and used for the iPhone seem like a toy. This is a professional tool and allows you to change the tuning reference from A = 440 Hz to a different reference, and it also allows for dropped or capo'ed tunings in a range of +/-1 octave in half steps. The app has some nice options like an input boost and an intelligent noise filter that can be enabled. ![]() It's super easy to tune a guitar by watching the cents readout until you're within a few cents of the note, and then use the strobe display to fine tune the note. When tuning, the display reacts extremely quickly and gives four different tuning references: the note a sharp/flat indicator the familiar Peterson Strobe display and what I found to be the most useful -a real time readout of how sharp or flat you are in cents. After installing this app halfway through making this record, we spent much less time tuning guitars and had no tuning issues subsequently. Peterson offers an upgraded capsule mic for acoustic instruments and an adapter cable that allows a 1/4' unbalanced guitar cable to plug directly into the iPhone for electric guitars, which give even better results. We have BOSS and Korg tuners and even an original Peterson Strobe Tuner at The Hangar, but iStroboSoft outperformed them all, even with the built in iPhone mic. I've been working on a record with an artist called Sea of Bees, and almost every song used a capo on the guitar, which made tuning and subsequent overdubs just that much more challenging. In fact, having now used it for a few months, I'd pay twice this and still feel like it's a great value. At $9.99, this is the most expensive app on my iPhone, but it's worth every penny. ![]()
